Nozomu Kida (木田望) was born in Japan on February 1st, 1948. At the age of 15, he began to take photographs with the compact camera Canon Canonet. He then bought a Nikon-F two years later and plunged himself into photography, exploring the entire scope of photographic genre by capturing portraits, snapshots, and landscapes. While completing his job as a computer programmer in a TV company in 1971, he continued to photography mainly monochromes, and learned photographic development with his own equipment.
In 1980, he embarked on a journey to Xinjiang province in China. It seems it was amongst the earliest Japanese tour into Western China that the Chinese government allowed since World War II. This journey allowed him to discover and capture hundreds of photographic negatives of the Silk Road, its people, its lifestyle, its architecture and natural landscape. He recently digitized these films, and set up a website to release the photographs from his trip.
