Last June, we have already introduced the Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards (KLPA). This contest has been supporting contemporary photography by bringing a refreshing take on portraiture, while connecting with a wide range of local and international photo practitioners.
The 9th instalment of KLPA received 1,090 single entries and 83 photostories from all over the globe, and the judges looked through a total of 1,819 individual images at the judging weekend. This year prizewinners are Vincent Gouriou, Margaret Mitchell, and Ivana Jašminská for the main theme “Defining Family”, and Sandra Chen-Weinstein, Sandra Mehl, Marinka Masséus for the open category, alongside other shortlisted finalists.
Tomorrow the KLPA will present a public exhibition of this year finalist’s portraits from 9 - 19 September 2017 at the Whitebox Gallery, PUBLIKA in Kuala Lumpur. The gallery will be opened daily from 10 am - 7 pm. Free entry. All 56 finalists and prize-winning entries will be framed or projected. Besides, the KLPA has lined up several happenings in conjunction with the exhibition. See the schedule of events here.
