Set in Stone relates to the way the people on the Tibetan plateau deal with impermanence. Living at high altitude with cold, long winters, life is fraught with hardship. With their spirituality as an anchor, the people make do with fleeting prayers and solidifying their beliefs in a way that stands the test of time.
Marc Aziz Ressang is a self-taught Dutch photographer and filmmaker living and working in Asia. His work deals with the fraught histories of places and the impact they have on its inhabitants. He explores the diverse human experience by observing the flux of culture and society. By combining video and stills, his work is characterized by a thoughtful curiosity of people’s surroundings. Framing places and stories through connecting themes, questioning and re-framing popular cultural perceptions.
