Ning Kai was born in 1987 in Zhengzhou (China); Sabrina Scarpa was born in 1991 in Gorinchem (The Netherlands). Both were involved in the photographic world before they met and started collaborative works in 2015. Partners in work and in life, they have launched their career as a duo with “The Land Between Us” project, which offers ethereal and colourful visions of the natural environment.
Imbued with a deep sense of naturalness and quietness, their photographs almost speak for themselves. They capture their journeys across the world without the need to locate specific places; instead they are exploring a dreamlike aesthetic perception of global wilderness. They describe their works as “footsteps” towards a “timeless myth of earthly paradise”, which allow them to blur boundaries between space and culture so as to “find moments of revelation, equality and intimacy within thinly populated areas and untouched wilderness".
