With the series and photobook “Ficciones” Sun Yanchu 孙彦初 played around with found photographs by adding gold leaf, watercolour, acrylic, even soy sauce, reinventing the original content. “I found these photos which were taken by Chinese people in 1970s or 80s from antique markets,” he explained. “I use collaging or drawing to destroy or carry forward the stories in the photos, maybe the original photos recorded true things which happened before, but were the new plots through my changes totally made up by me?”
Sun Yanchu was born in 1978 in Zhoukou, Henan Province. He now lives and works in Zhengzhou. He won MIO Photo Award (Morumura Yasumasa) Special Award in 2010, won Lianzhou International Photo Festival New Photography Award in 2011, won Jinan International Photo Biennale The Best Photographer Award in 2012.
