Through this series of photographs, Yang Yongliang 杨泳梁 (born in Shanghai in 1980) draws his inspiration from Tao Yuanming’s (365-427) famous prose poem The Peach and Blossom Spring. Yang offers puzzling photographs, in which utopia and dystopia dangerously coexist. Following the steps of Lang Jingshan and his technique of ‘composite picture’, Yang combines Chinese pictorial tradition of shanshui (Chinese word for traditional landscape painting) and contemporary digital techniques.
