The juries of the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, one of the world’s leading photography competitions, have been recently announced by the World Photography Organisation. To mark the occasion, a selection of entries to the Open competition are released and the new judges offer advice to those entering the Awards.
Amongst the photographers who have already submitted their works, there is the Chinese Jiamin Lu's photograph capturing fireflies flying. He explains: "This photo was taken in Jiangsu, a city in Nanjing province, shooting the Linggu Temple scenic area in June 2017. Due to environmental destruction, I have rarely seen fireflies near my life, not to mention large tracts. My friend told me that at Nanjing's Linggu Temple there are many fireflies, so we went to photograph them. I hope this wonderful scene will last longer. I originally bought a camera to record my daughter's birth and growth, and later found landscape photography very enjoyable. My main focuses are shooting the landscape in my beautiful hometown of Wuxi to show everyone its beautiful scenery and also help to preserve it."
