Announcing the Call for Entries to the 9th KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL PHOTOAWARDS 2017 Portrait Prize. With a total of $13,500 prizemoney, specially commissioned trophies and valuable workshop prizes with Obscura Festival and Invisible Photographer Asia, our 2017 theme is DEFINING FAMILY.
How do societies across the world see and define the family ? Are traditional conservative definitions sufficient in encompassing changing family structures across various nations? Are there major differences between Western and Eastern societies? Are formal definitions sufficient in defining same-sex parents, adopted children and mixed race families? What about co-habiting couples who are not legally married but live a traditional family-life? We welcome your wide interpretations in all styles - photojournalistic, found & staged, conceptual, casual or formal - and help us define The Family. Prizewinners will be invited to attend the awards event in September in Malaysia and the50 Winning and Finalists portraits will be publicly displayed at Whitebox gallery, PUBLIKA, Kuala Lumpur from 9 - 19 September, 2017.
