The Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival was created in 2015. Located the coastal city of Xiamen, Southeast China's Fujian province, this festival came into being thanks to Sam Stourdzé, the director of Rencontres d’Arles, and Chinese photographer RongRong, founder of Three Shadows Photography Art Centre (Beijing and Xiamen).
集美·阿尔勒国际摄影季创立于2015年，在中国东南部的福建省厦门市举办。摄影季由著名国际摄影节阿尔勒摄影节（法国）主席萨姆·斯道兹和中国当代摄影艺术家荣荣（三影堂摄影艺术中心创始人）联合发起。
After two successful editions, the third instalment of Jimei x Arles continues to join forces with the Rencontres d’Arles. This year festival aims to confirm its objectives to share a “French savoir-faire” in cultural engineering, encourage emerging and established artists active in China, while giving voices to young Chinese curators.
摄影季经过往届两次成功的举办，第三届集美·阿尔勒国际摄影季将继续与法国阿尔勒摄影节密切合作。此次的摄影季于大家分享法国风味文化的同时，给中国活跃的新锐和成名摄影师提供呈现的平台，给予中国年轻策展人属于他们的声音。
In fact despite the proliferation of photographic events, biennials, fairs, and festivals in Mainland China, there is still a need to professionalize and democratize the discipline. "China's art system didn't pay enough attention to photography as an art form. For a long time, photography has been more widely seen as a means of news communication, rather than a form of art. The importance of photography has not yet been realized or acknowledged," said Jimei Arles festival cofounder RongRong. "With more and more young people passionate about taking up photography as a career or hobby, I'm confident that Chinese photography has a bright future ahead," he continued.
