Founded in 2011 by Dr Marine Cabos-Brullé, Photography of China is an independent online platform dedicated to photography in and about China. It brings together diverse perspectives on the country, its people, and its history, while fostering connections across photographic, artistic, and academic communities.
The platform provides a space for the study of photographic practices in China, from the introduction of the medium to the present day. Through its publications, archives, and research resources, Photography of China makes a wide range of visual and scholarly materials accessible to researchers, students, photography professionals, and the wider public.
Marine Cabos-Brullé is an art historian specialising in the history of photography in China. She holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London, and has lectured at SOAS, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Christie’s. She is also the founder of France China Archives, an open-access scholarly database documenting photographic archives relating to China held in French collections.
