“In The Corner”
What attract Mellon the most are often plain and simple objects. He finds them sincere and honest, but this sense of authenticity might disappear soon. He uses his photography to respect their existences. Why can’t people respect an object?People always ask him what’s the meaning of shooting these objects. For Mellon, shooting them is the meaning itself.
“CA987”
Air China 987 is the round-way flight between Beijing and Los Angles Toby used to take. The experience of traveling back and forth impacts the way Toby observes the world as he found that the photos he took in China and the U.S. have different visual structures. In this series, Toby aims to combine the two visual systems into a complete one.
“You Know You Don’t Know”
Leaving home for boarding school then moving to the U.S by herself at young ages, Joyce found it hard to define where home is and who she is. During her adolescence, Joyce convinced herself to be the alien observer who lives within human’s societies. “An observer who lives within” is also how Joyce define a photographer. In “you know you don’t know”, Joyce uses images as medium, trying to visualize the mind of this self-made character.
