With Yang Fudong's solo exhibition on 2020 at its core, the book contains articles including the artist's narration and exhibition reviews; it also includes a large number of first-published filming scenes and photos of working process in the studio; the multiple narrative relationships between works in the exhibition is reproduced through rich literature and images. Based on the exhibition, the book retrieves the artist’s long-term creative core by tracing back to the representative works from the early to the present... I have been thinking that "Endless Peaks" sounds like a good film title. But I’m not sure if I should list it to the Library Film Project as one of the films archived here. I perceive it as a film that you can never physically see. Or let’s say it possesses the ambience of a moving image, which can evoke imagination but the film has never really happened.
-- Yang Fudong
"Endless Peaks", as a significant work by Yang Fudong in recent years to explore the language of images with painting as the medium, is a powerful practice of the artist's concept, "painting as a film", in real space. As the record and development of the concept, this book will continue the flowing narrative of the film. The cover of the book is made of cotton paper with a warm and plain touch, and the image of the negative film is colored calmly and with tension in the cotton fiber. The relationship between mirror and matte, black and white, light and dark echoes the core of "Endless Peaks". On the front of the book, the white characters "Yang Fudong" can be seen directly. Through the reflection and the change of the line of sight, the "Endless Peaks" of the hot silver craft is vividly on paper.
Paper of different textures is used in the book according to the content and sequence of the arrangement. The opening chapter uses a looming transparent paper to create a sense of ridges and clouds, where the “Endless Peaks” is revealed sentence by sentence in both Chinese and English. The articles and documentary images are printed on plain matte paper, and the works are presented on paper with a high degree of color reproduction and a delicate touch. The book is arranged according to the order of viewing the exhibition, in which details such as flashbacks and pull pages are added to record the exhibition in multiple dimensions and present the original appearance of the work.
